    Ingredients:

    * Milk, fruit juice, or non-dairy drink
    * Fruit (fresh or frozen)
    * Ice (optional if you have frozen fruit)
    * Yogurt (optional)

    Steps:

    1. Take out your blender. Lacking a blender, you can make do with a shaker – a cup with a secure lid. Be prepared for a lot of shaking for smooth consistency when using a shaker. Put your favorite fruit in the blender to add flavor.
    2. Add 12-16 oz. of milk or a non-dairy drink like soy or rice milk to the blender or shaker. Fruit juice can be used as well for a more tangy flavor.
    3. Add fresh or frozen fruit. Try a variety of fruits and frozen fruits to make the smoothie fresh, original, and delicious. Note that frozen fruit may seem less appetizing because it isn’t “fresh,” but frozen fruit makes your smoothie thicker. It will be less like juice and more like a smoothie.
    4. Remember to add yogurt!
    5. Turn on the blender, using the liquify or puree setting. Begin adding ice cubes one by one. Four to six cubes should be enough. If you’re using a shaker, simply begin shaking until all ingredients are well mixed and then add the ice to chill.
    6. When you no longer hear the ice cubes blending, turn off the blender and pour your cool concoction into a large glass.
    7. Add a straw and a little umbrella if you’re feeling tropical!
    8. Add sugar or honey to make it sweeter because if you don’t it won’t taste as good. Also you could add lemon,orange, or clemintine zest!
    9. Enjoy!

    Tips:

    * If you’re using your smoothie as a meal replacement, adding a green plant powder (available at most health food stores) is a great way to add nutrients and boost your energy.
    * If you are using a shaker, most fruits will not blend well. Bananas are one exception. Mash a banana and then add it to the shaker with the other ingredients.
    * Frozen fruit can be substituted for some or all of the ice, making for a brighter flavor. You can freeze your own, or buy them pre-frozen. Trader Joe’s sells a variety of frozen fruit that taste great in smoothies.
    * Adding 1/2 cup of yogurt or a banana will thicken your smoothie, but don’t add both unless you have another watery fruit
    * Balance tart, sweet and savory flavors. For example sesame seed paste makes an interesting counterpoint to kiwi, peanut butter to banana, etc.
    * If you want to make the smoothie healthier include a scoop of whey or soy protein powder.

    You can put whatever fruit you want into a smoothie. Just try flavour combinations you like, and don’t put too many sugary fruits together.

    Peach’s, pears, pineapple, apple, banana, any kind of berry, kiwi, melons, etc.

    I heard that when you mix fruit and vegetables, you can only taste the fruit… so maybe try throwing in some carrot or something for extra vitamins, if you can taste it than just don’t do it again. =]

    Fruits and yogurt. I also add protein powder (whey or soy) if I am having the smoothie instead of a meal. I like peaches and blueberries with yogurt.

    You can make a great tasting smoothie with all kinds of fruit. It is best to start off with a ripe banana, this will give your smoothie a creamy texture. The recipe is listed below. Since your are dieting, you should use skim milk or soy milk in the recipe.
    My personal favorite is Bananas and Strawberries.

    •1 Cup of Ice
    •1 peeled banana
    •2 cups frozen strawberries, raspberries, or cherries
    •1 cup milk
    •1/2 cup plain or vanilla yogurt
    •1/2 cup orange juice
    •2 to 3 tablespoons honey or to taste

    Put all the ingredients in a blender and process until smooth.
    Pour into glasses and serve.
