Yeah an octave mandolin would be slightly smaller I think. I made the same mistaker when first saw it but I did some research and this is most definately a bouzouki.
Its tuned to GDAE i think as play this on mandolin even though yes that is a bouzouki.

It’s actually a Flatiron bouzouki. I’m not positive on what tuning he’s using (I know nothing about Bouzouki and little about theory, so I couldn’t tell you from the chord shapes as to whether or not he’s using GDAD, GDAE, or something else)
Anyhow, you can tell from the scale length that it’s longer than an octave mando, which pretty much means that it fits the western definition of a bouzouki.
It’s an octave mandolin.
That’s because Bouzouki is sexier than mando. =P
insanely awesome…chris sounds almost even better on that bozuki then on the mando.
