Fruit Smoothie Recipes

category: Smoothie Articles

The smoothie is a blended beverage loved by adults and children. The delectable drink is found everywhere from health food markets to coffee shops. Because smoothies are easy to make, they become popular beverage that you can make yourself at home. Smoothies can be both a tasty desert and an excellent source of needed vitamins and minerals and most of them are absolutely fat free. Literally hundreds of smoothie recipes are available on the internet or in the books, and there is no way you wouldn’t find the one for you.

Smoothies purchased at a yogurt stand are often high calorie treats made with frozen yogurt, fruit juice, canned/frozen fruit, and a sweetener. Although these smoothies taste great, they can be expensive, and often have as many calories as a full meal.

You do not need to purchase an expensive food processor to make a smoothie at home. If you have a high speed blender, it is easy to follow smoothie recipes and make a variety of drinks for the price of a single smoothie from a shop.

To make a smoothie, blend your favourite unsweetened frozen juice concentrate with a mixture of your favorite fruits, and add water or ice until you reach your preferred texture. For a simple, but tasty smoothie recipe, try a Sunrise Surprise. Mix a can of apple juice concentrate, one banana, and a quarter cup (or desired amount) of chopped strawberries. Add water and ice to taste. This drink is an excellent source of folic acid and vitamins A, B1, B2, B6, and C.

For a creamier flavour, try a smoothie recipe with low-fat milk and yogurt. Yogurt adds acidophilus – - a bacteria that aids digestion. For an Orange Surprise, blend a cup of plain yogurt with orange juice. Then, gradually mix in your favourite fresh fruit (strawberries, raspberries or melon) to taste. For a thinner consistency, add skim milk.

Green smoothie recipes are popular with parents and naturopaths. When making a green smoothie, include a mixture of two parts fruit and one part green, leafy vegetables such as baby spinach, romaine lettuce or kale. Dark greens supply vitamins E and K, as well as calcium and fiber. Green smoothies aid digestion, boost the immune system, and help even the most finicky eaters obtain their daily portion of vegetables. For a Tropical Smoothie recipe, blend two mangos, ice and water. Then, add ½ cup of chopped baby spinach or romaine lettuce to the mix. Add orange juice or apple juice to sweeten and top with fresh mint or basil.

No matter which of the smoothie recipes you use, you will find that smoothies are fun, economical, and nutritious. And that is why we say eat 5 A Day the colour way!

A Recipe for Healthy Smoothie

category: Smoothie Articles

Who doesn’t love a fruit smoothie? How about a healthy one that has a taste that cannot be beat? You can stop your search today because this smoothie recipe has it all.

This healthy fruit smoothie recipe is chopped full of wholesome fruit pieces and the sweet taste of honey. Blend one up today.

Ingredients:

1 cup plain flavored fat free yogurt

1/2 cup crushed ice

1 cup unsweetened apple juice

1/2 cup watermelon, cut into small cubes

1/2 cup strawberries cut into halves

1/2 cup mango, cut into small cubes

1/2 cup peaches, cut into small cubes

1 tsp. vanilla extract

1/4 cup honey

1/4 cup almonds, crushed

Toppings:

Fat free cool whip

Couple sprigs fresh mint

To Make:

Frozen fruit may be substituted for this recipe, however fresh fruit will provide the best taste for these smoothies.

Before making your smoothie, cut up the watermelon, strawberries, mango, and peaches according to the directions listed above. Then, in a small bowl, combine all the fruit pieces and the honey together.

Make sure all the pieces are covered by the honey. Let fruit mixture chill in refrigerator for at least half an hour. Remove the fruit bowl from the refrigerator and let it stand for 10 minutes. Combine the fat free yogurt, apple juice, and crushed ice into a blender.

Blend this mixture for less than one minute before adding the fruit. Add the fruit and honey mixture to the liquid in the blender. Add vanilla and blend on high until all the fruit is mixed well.

Remove blender from the base and pour smoothie mixture into tall milkshake glasses. Top off each of the smoothies with a dollop of fat free cool whip. Then sprinkle crushed almonds on top of the cool whip.

A sprig of mint on the side of the glass completes this refreshing, healthy smoothie. Serves 2

Natural Smoothie Formula To Stop Constipation And Acne

category: Smoothie Articles

Here is how to build a natural smoothie that can stop constipation, relieve acne, improve your skin and give you more energy. The smoothie base is a liquid slurry that can be used to add more natural ingredients.

The liquid base can be made from various fresh juices or rice, oat, or almond milks. I stay away from milk since milk creates mucus along the gastrointestinal lining. Choose and mix any of the following liquids and pour them into a blender.

Juices – apple, pineapple, orange, tangerine

Milks – rice dream, oat milk, almond milk

I use a combination of 40% rice dream, 40% almond milk, and 20% apple juice. You can use the combinations you like. Sometimes I might just use all rice dream. Other times I will mix 75% almond milk with 25% fresh apple juice.

All of these juices provide liquid to your colon to help your stop constipation.

Sesame Milk

You can also make sesame milk and use this in your smoothies.

In his book, Blending Magic, Bernard Jensen, Nutritionist, has a real nice recipe for sesame milk.

“I believe that sesame seed is one of our best. It is a wonderful drink for gaining weight and for lubricating the intestinal tract. Its nutritional value is beyond compare, as it is high in protein and minerals. This is the seed that is used so much as a basic food in Arabia and East India.

Blend for 1- 1 1/2 minutes to make smooth,

·2 cups of distilled water

·1/4 cup of Sesame Seed

·2 Tablespoons Soy Milk Powder”

In place of 2 cups of distilled water use 1 cup of water and 1 cup of low fat rice dream and leave out the 2 tablespoons of soy milk powder. This will make this drink less fattening. I prefer not to give children soymilk or soy products because of their estrogen mimicking characteristics.

Banana Base

Next I always put in a banana. This gives the liquid a bit more thickness. Also bananas are high in potassium and other minerals. They contain little fiber and yet do not create constipation when used with other fiber fruits. Use bananas that are not spotted since at this point they are quite ripe and are more fattening.

Starting A Smoothie Business

category: Smoothie Articles

Is there room in your town for a Smoothie business? Juice bars are popping up in most towns and cities in the UK. Their offering is healthy, nutritious, easy to make, fun and very tasty!

Fruit & vegetable juices definitely beat most other foods having lower calories, higher vitamin and mineral content and are low in fat. They have been recognized as preventing many types of illnesses caused by our fast food / low nutrition diet.

Every fruit and vegetable has its own unique mixture of vitamins and minerals which you can use to make up for many deficiencies in your diet.

Juice on the move – they are great to be consumed on the move in this high pace world in which we live in. With a decent lid and a straw you are unlikely to make a mess either in your office or car. Who has the time to sit down, peel fruit, eat it and then wash your hands?

You can offer supplements in your juice like added Vitamin C, Ginseng, Mint or even Garlic to make your offering even more tempting to the new vitamin popping generation. Why not go the full distance and serve organic fruit and vegetable juices?

Profit margins are good and equipment costs are low. All you need are several juice machines, good quality fruit & vegetables, nice decor and the ability to work hard.

You need to have the right type of footfall though. Find a site that has a lot of younger people passing by. Ideal location would be in walking distance of a large trendy shopping mall and a big complex of offices.

Initial expenses can be high for marketing your new business. You have to let people know you have arrived by sending out emails & doing leaflet drops. Advertise in the local newspaper and radio. Offer free juice to the first thousand customers and people are sure to know that you have arrived!

Try and come up with trendy names for your juices. It might be just pure orange juice to you but how about “Refreshing Orange Bang” for a name? Your apple juice could be called “The Green Devil” whilst carrot juice could possible be named “The Energizer”.

Branding is everything in this business. Choose trendy colors that immediately scream fruit. Use reds, greens & orange in your logo and shop front design. Your slogan should echo the healthy aspects of your products. Possible slogans could include “Crave the taste & Improve your Health” or how about “The Juice that Packs a Healthy Punch”?

Smoothies are not just fruit drinks; they can also be an alternative to a snack or light meal for people who are worried about their expanding waistlines. Add healthy, easy to make sandwiches to complement your nutritious range.

Making fruit juice is easy. The real challenge lies in picking the right site, establishing your brand, building goodwill (and reputation) and generating repeat business.

For the entrepreneur starting out in business, a juice bar can be a fun business with decent profit potential.
