Recipes for Smoothies – Strawberry
Category: Smoothie Articles
The strawberry fruit smoothie is one of the popular smoothies in the smoothie world. And why not? Strawberries are delicious and tasty, and like the banana, its ability to blend well with other fruits is a highly valued asset. Plus, it puts some color in the drink, too.
Did you know that the strawberry has a higher concentration of vitamin C than the famous orange? Yes, that’s surprisingly true. It also has folate, fiber and potassium compared to other fruits known for those nutrients (like bananas and apples). It can also decrease the risk of high blood pressure and reduces the risk of possible heart disease. It is also said to improve memory, alleviate pains from rheumatoid arthritis and reduces the risk of cancers.
But eating strawberries alone is not enough. You would still need to have the proper diet for the nutrients in the fruit to be able to do their thing. This is the reason why strawberries and smoothies go perfectly well together – the nutrients in the strawberries are complemented by the other ingredients of the smoothie.
Unlike bananas (where frozen banana slices are usually preferred than fresh slices), fresh strawberries are better for smoothies compared to frozen ones. Adding milk, yogurt and/or ice cream (preferably strawberry flavored, but vanilla or plain works fine as well) makes the perfect strawberry smoothie blend – creamy with the right touch of sweetness, plus the added bonus of getting other nutrients too (like calcium in milk, or good bacteria that promotes good digestion from the yogurt).
Still not convinced? Well, here are some recipes to tide you over:
- This recipe has the goodness of all things creamy. Combine and blend the following ingredients: 6 large strawberries, half a cup of vanilla or strawberry ice cream, half a cup of whole milk and half a cup of yogurt (choose your own flavor). This will be a thick smoothie so prepare yourself as it will definitely be filling.
- Blend the following: 13 to 15 strawberries, half a cup of milk, half a cup of orange juice, one-fourth cup of lemon juice, half a cup of ice, 4 tablespoons of honey (or 1 tablespoon of sugar), and one-fourth cup of water. Blend and process until smooth. Serve immediately.
- Combine and blend: 6 large strawberries, half a cup of yogurt (take your pick) and 1 cup of whole milk. Blend and process for about 30 seconds or until smooth. Serve immediately. (Tip: You can also add 1 banana to this recipe for added sweetness and creaminess.)
