What are you favorite ingredients for your homemade fruit smoothies?

Category: Smoothie Q&A

For those who like to make healthy fruit smoothies at home, what are some of your favorite ingredients to use?

Do you ever like to throw in any extra stuff (e.g. wheat germ) for extra nutritional value?

Instead of using ice in your smoothies, use frozen bananas. It keeps your smoothie from getting watered down and adds flavor.

i like good ol’ combos like bananas and strawberries with milk and crushed ice. if i’ve been doing good on other things i’ve been eating, a little chocolate syrup is nice. no extra stuff. (i hope to see some really good suggestions on here!)

fat free vanilla yogurt and orange juice as a base then I add fruit. Blackberry is delicious. I also like using frozen fruit like frozen banana or strawberry in place of ice. The only supplimental thing I add right now is benefiber.

I usually put strawberries, banana, soy milk, ice and a teeny bit of wheat germ (plus some sugar if it needs it) and it really keeps me going. Yummy too :D

    Banana
    Fresh peaches
    Non-fat vanilla frozen yogurt
    Fresh strawberries
    A little fresh orange juice

That’s it. Just whip it all up in a blende and enjoy. Very refreshing and quite nutritious. Wheat germ makes it taste like … well, I’d rather not say.

Wow, everyone has posted really good suggestions. Personally I wouldn’t be able to choose which would be the best answer.

For me, any type of fruit, along with yogurt, dairy, and some sort of wheat germ with a bit of honey for sweetness.

I don’t know if I could offer any better suggestions than the ones posted here. They all sound delicious!
