whats the difference between a smoothie maker and blender?

Category: Smoothie Q&A

Just started living on my own and need to start eating properly. Dont particularly like fruit so I’d thought of using a smoothie maker. Having checked with the argos catalogue I cant see the difference between a smoothie maker and blender, apart from price (blenders appear cheaper!) Any thoughts?

A smoothie maker and a blender can both be used to make smoothies; just add 10 pieces of ice for your smoothie; a blender can be used to make alot of drinks; because it has more speeds to make alot of different drinks. Good luck

I agree the ony difference is the price! I use a blender and in my opinion a blender is just as good if not better cos you can use it for allsorts, not just making smoothies!!!

Some of the smoothie makers seem to have a little tap attached so you can decant the drink into a glass of your choosing. I think you are better off going for a half decent blender that it capable of crushing ice- much more useful in the kitchen for a variety of tasks. Can only think that the little tap would soon clog up anyway!

Smoothie makers and blenders are the same thing. It’s just a marketing ploy to sell you something else you don’t need. One thing I would say is, that if you want to make smoothies, make sure whichever smoothie maker/blender has the ability to chop through ice. AND another tip, it’s probably best to get a glass one rather than plastic as ice being spun and chopped at speed can actually break the plastic.

I just use a blender… its a blender that blends anything edible so why should it not do smoothies?

I think the industry likes to make up fads by inventing blenders called “Smoothie Blenders” so they can squeeze more money out of us.
