Would cantaloupe be good in a smoothie? watermelon?
Category: Smoothie Q&A
I heard it is okay to use any fruit in a smoothie besides grapes. Anyone ever try cantaloupe? or watermelon? Can you give any different combinations of fruits you recommend?

Watermelon would make it too watery, unless you added more ice cream/yogurt later to compensate for the extra liquid ….cantaloupe might be ok, but I don’t think most melons work well with dairy …….I buy bags of frozen fruit and use it instead of ice cubes (with a corresponding juice to match): mango, blueberries, peaches, cherries, strawberries. And, bananas are good and make it creamy, but it’s too filling for me when I use them
Cantaloupe, I think I’ve tasted it before. It was really good. Watermelons, I have never tasted. But, I think it would be really watery unless you add something in.
Had cantaloupe once and it was awful, but the guy that made it didn’t chill it so it was room temperature. Yuck-ee. My boss does all kinds of veggies,(kale, broccoli, carrots, spinach, beets etc) then she adds some lemon juice and banana to cover up the veggie taste.
I’ve made smoothies with both and they came out fine.
You can use any fruit in a smoothie. Both watermelon and cantaloupe taste great in a smoothie. You can cut the cantaloupe into chunks and freeze them in a ziplock bag. Whatever you do don’t freeze watermelon, it will lose all of it flavor. You can use grapes too, you might want to freeze them first in a ziplock bag, though.
If you are daring, you can put vegetables in a smoothie, it is a great way to get your vegetables in for the day. I was skeptical too, but once I tried it I was hooked. They are called “green smoothies”. Try fresh spinach first, you won’t even taste the spinach, the only thing is that it will be green.
Best place to buy fruit is from a farmers market ing your area. You can also go to Super Walmart, Costco, or Sam Club and buy bags of frozen fruit to use in smoothies.
